Our Gecko Team sits down with Douglas Spinas from Peroxsil® to answer some of the most common questions about water treatment asked by caravan owners.
What is the number one problem customers are experiencing with their caravan water tanks?
Smelly water from their caravan water tanks is a problem for many caravan owners.
Why has this become a problem?
We found that the issue wasn’t with the tank itself but with the quality of the water added to it. As you may know, many regions in South Africa struggle with water quality, and this becomes even more of a concern when the water is stored in closed systems like a caravan tank, JoJo units, etc. Over time, if untreated, biofilms can develop in the tank and feeder pipes, leading to hygiene issues.
How can tis problem be solved?
We suggest the use of our internationally approved water hygiene product, Peroxsil® USHP. This is a powerful water treatment solution that offers a certified alternative to traditional chlorine disinfection methods. What sets Peroxsil® apart is its ability to eliminate biofilms without being corrosive at recommended dose rates. Plus, it maintains its effectiveness across a wide range of temperatures and pH levels, which is something chlorine can’t do.
Why is the use of this kind of product necessary?
With the growing concerns about biofilm and legionella in South Africa, especially given the less-than-ideal water quality from our sources, it’s crucial that we tackle these issues head-on. These bacteria can flourish in closed water systems under the right conditions, potentially leading to health risk
What sets this roduct apart from others in the industry?
Peroxsil® USHP stands out from other biocides due to several key features:
- Dual Action: SHP combines the antimicrobial properties of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) with the effectiveness of ionic silver. This dual action enhances its ability to combat a wide range of pathogens.
- Broad-Spectrum Efficacy: SHP is effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores. It can address various microbial threats, making it versatile for different applications.
- Fast-Acting: SHP rapidly disinfects surfaces and water due to its synergistic action. The silver ions enhance interactions with microbial cell surfaces, leading to efficient pathogen inactivation.
- Long-Lasting: Unlike some biocides that degrade quickly, SHP remains stable over time. Its sustained efficacy ensures continued protection.
- Stability: SHP remains effective even in challenging conditions such as varying pH levels, temperature fluctuations, and organic matter presence.
- Non-Toxic to Humans and the Environment: SHP decomposes into water and oxygen, leaving no harmful residues. It is safe for humans, animals, and aquatic ecosystems.
- Biofilm Disruption: SHP penetrates and disrupts biofilms, where other biocides struggle. Biofilms act as protective shields for bacteria, but SHP’s dual action breaks them down.
- Material Compatibility: SHP is less corrosive than some traditional biocides, making it suitable for various materials and surfaces.
- Legionella Risk Reduction: SHP helps mitigate Legionella risks during water system recommissioning, especially after prolonged stagnation.
