The Covid-19 pandemic has affected many across the globe, South Africa included. The effect of Lockdown and now more recently, Level 4, has been felt through the restrictions on work and livelihoods, social gatherings, travel and life in general. We have all had to restructure how we work and live.
Lockdown and Level 4 has been an adjustment for our team as well. But we are pushing through with 20% capacity as per the new restrictions. It has been tough on our team, but there have also been many lessons learnt which we would like to share with you.
Lesson 1: Adapt and carry on
The Lockdown brought everything to a grinding halt, and we weren’t able to fulfil orders that were meant to be collected. This caused a lot of stress, but it also created an opportunity for us to look at the business, refine our strategies and adapt to these changes so that when we were able to get back to work, we were 100% ready with a plan of action. We have always said that those who join the Gecko Offroad family are special and our clients have been fantastic during this period. We have shuffled some delivery dates around and are back on track with taking orders. The only way to carry on is to get things done, even if it is a bit slower than usual.
Lesson 2: Appreciate the freedom we have to travel and camp
One of the things that Lockdown has done is made us realise how lucky we are to be able to get our Gecko and go on a camping trip at the drop of a hat, for a weekend, a week or weeks on end. It is a privilege to be able to travel around our beautiful country and have a choice of so many amazing camping sites. Never again will we take for granted camping with our family and friends, braaiing under the stars and taking in those breathtaking views.
Lesson 3: Look for the silver lining – for us this has to include our Gecko owners
In hard times it is so difficult not to focus on the negatives. But luckily for us, the active Gecko community has continued to share their favourite camping memories and the experiences and encounters they have had through their travels. Not only has this kept our spirits up, but it has made us excited for the many camping adventures to come. To our amazing Gecko owners, we say thank you for continuously reminding us why we do what we do!
Covid-19 has changed and impacted so many. We look forward to the day when we can go camping again and enjoy all that this country has to offer. All we can do at the moment is to continue taking orders and building the best quality luxury offroad and off-grid caravans – making lifelong camping dreams come true.
