Gecko Offroad is a family-owned business established in 2010 and based Haenertsburg in Limpopo (In Magoebaskloof between Polokwane and Tzaneen on the R71 ). As lovers of the outdoors, camping on offroad trips and caravanning locally (for 30 years), we saw the need for a multi terrain caravan that would cater for both options and thus do away with the need for two holiday “set-ups”.
After research and development of three years, the first caravan was complete and ready for road testing. The prototype trip of 8000km in August 2012, through Botswana, up to Epupa Falls, down the Skeleton Coast via Palmwag, to the Fish River Canyon via Sesriem, really tested the Gecko. After a few minor changes, production began in earnest.
The Gecko “Xtreme” was launched at the LA Sports Show in Pretoria and first appeared in the media early in 2013.
Our focus is on Quality, Luxury and Simplicity.
This is not only evident in the imported fittings (such as the stove and toilet) but in the fact that there is close supervision at every step of the manufacturing and assembly processes.
The fixed king sized bed, on-board shower and separate chemical toilet makes overlanding a pleasure.
Great care was taken in the design to ensure that this caravan is simple to set-up. On arrival at your destination you only need to pop up the roof and you are set for your stay. The kitchen slides out providing you with access to a two-plate gas
stove complete with glass lid, a wash up area, a drawer complete with crockery and your fridge/freezer. The pantry also has ample space for groceries, pots and a spot for glasses and bottles. The entrance door is fitted with a bag for cutlery and other necessities. Everything is close to hand.
Gecko’s commitment to clients is to ensure excellent service from placing of their order to the collection of their caravan and beyond. A detailed handover of every caravan ensures that there is no confusion as to the workings of all components from the geyser to the loo (and everything in between).
The first caravan is used by the family and as our demo model. It is also exhibited on shows when attended.
